Guwahati: In a momentous ceremony held today at The Assam Royal Global University (RGU), Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, unveiled the bust of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. The tribute comes just days ahead of Constitution Day on 26 November, underscoring Dr. Ambedkar’s lasting influence on India’s democratic framework. Justice Kumar also planted a tree on the university campus before engaging with law students in an interactive session.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. A.K. Pansari, Chancellor; Dr. B.C. Barooah, Dean, Royal School of Law & Administration; Dr. Diganta Munshi, Registrar (Administration); Dr. D.N. Singh, Registrar (Academics); faculty members, and students from the departments of Law, Sociology, Political Science and Public Administration.

Addressing students, Justice Kumar reflected on Dr. Ambedkar’s resolute struggle and exceptional accomplishments, remarking, “You must believe in yourselves and reject pessimistic thoughts if you wish to achieve your goals. On 26th November, we honour Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution—the mother of all laws.” He encouraged students to uphold Ambedkar’s ideals in their academic journeys and future legal careers, calling the study of law an instrument of social transformation.
Speaking on the occasion, Chancellor Dr. A.K. Pansari reiterated that RGU continues to honour national icons by installing statues and busts across the campus. He noted that the unveiling of Dr. Ambedkar’s bust aims to instill pride, patriotism and appreciation of India’s constitutional and intellectual heritage among the students.
The university community hailed the event as a powerful reminder of Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy and its enduring relevance to the legal fraternity.
