UDALGURI-SONITPUR, Aug 24: Assam’s first children’s play based on the life and ideals of legendary singer Zubeen Garg, titled Joy Zubeen Da, will be staged at Rakshasmari in Dhekiajuli on September 19, the death anniversary of the artiste.
Zubeen Garg’s brother, Arun Garg, will inaugurate the play at the Rakshasmari Public Auditorium. The mahurat ceremony was held on August 24 at an event organised by the Rakshasmari branch of Bonyom Sanskritik Khetra.
Social worker Tulsi Nath lit the ceremonial lamp, while Mohan Tanti, Central Vice-President of the Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association, formally inaugurated the programme by breaking a ceremonial coconut.
Sanjay Baruah, president of the Central Committee of Bonyom Sanskritik Khetra, delivered the welcome address, while Amiyo Chasni, president of the Rakshasmari branch, conducted the programme.
Members and office-bearers of the organisation, along with cultural and theatre activists, attended the event and discussed preparations for the production.
The Rakshasmari branch said Joy Zubeen Da was Assam’s first children’s play based on Zubeen Garg’s life and legacy following his death. The play had earlier been staged twice at the Trimurti Auditorium in Dhekiajuli.
Children will perform the play at Rakshasmari as a tribute to the late artiste and to commemorate his life, ideals and contribution to Assamese culture.
