Guwahati: The Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta on Wednesday dismissed the authenticity of an alleged post-mortem report of late singer Zubeen Garg circulating on social media, terming it “completely fake and fabricated.”
Addressing the media, Gupta clarified that the viral document bears no official signature, seal, or authentication and therefore holds no legal or procedural validity. “The post-mortem report that has gone viral on social media is entirely false. It does not bear the signature of any doctor or medical officer who conducted the examination, nor does it have any official stamp or authentication,” he stated.
The senior officer added that the CID has already identified the sources of some misleading social media posts and warned that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading misinformation. “We are monitoring social media, and if anyone is found to be spreading misinformation, strict action will be taken,” Gupta cautioned.
He further reiterated that the official post-mortem report is not a public document and will only be presented before the court. Gupta also debunked claims suggesting that the report would be released to the public at a later date.
Providing updates on the ongoing probe, the CID official informed that five accused individuals, including Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, are being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court today. Additionally, Sushmita Goswami and Pratim Bhuyan appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) earlier in the day to record their statements, while Devjyoti Hazarika is expected to appear soon.
Gupta revealed that the CID has been conducting a comprehensive and coordinated investigation, including assistance from international authorities. “Ten Assamese expatriates residing in Singapore have already provided their official statements. We received an email from the Singapore administration yesterday and have already responded to it. The communication has been positive, and we are expecting further cooperation soon,” he said.
Assuring transparency and diligence, the Special DGP emphasized that the CID is leaving no stone unturned in pursuing justice for Zubeen Garg and that the investigation is progressing efficiently and on the right track.
