CID Gains ‘Definite Angle’ in Zubeen Garg Death Case as Viscera Report Arrives: Assam CM

Guwahati: In a major development in the probe into the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has now identified a “definite angle” in the case following the receipt of the viscera report from the Central Forensic Laboratory in Delhi.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said the viscera report had been sent to the panel of doctors at the Guwahati Medical College who conducted the post-mortem examination, and the findings will be submitted to the court soon. “The investigation is moving in a very decisive direction. I am confident that the entire chronology of events will be revealed within a few days,” Sarma said.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Police have sent key queries to Zubeen Garg’s family as part of their active investigation into the case. The Assam government, under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT), has shared all requested information with Singapore authorities. While Sarma did not disclose the specific details of the queries, he affirmed that both the Singapore Police and the Assam Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) are working in close coordination to ensure a transparent and thorough investigation.

The SIT has so far arrested seven individuals linked to the case, including the singer’s cousin and Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg, North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharth Sharma, two band members, and two of his personal security officers. Investigators have reportedly discovered suspicious financial transactions amounting to over ₹1.1 crore in the accounts of the arrested security personnel, adding a financial trail to the probe.

Several members of the Assamese expatriate community in Singapore have been summoned for questioning, though many have yet to appear before the CID. The authorities have rejected requests for video conferencing, insisting on in-person depositions to maintain procedural integrity.

The case has stirred deep emotions across Assam, with fans and the wider community demanding justice for the late music icon. Singapore Police have classified the matter as a coroner’s case, investigating it under “suspicious circumstances,” while queries related to the crime scene and witness testimonies are still pending.

Officials confirmed that the CID-SIT aims to file the charge sheet within the legal deadline, ensuring no delay in delivering justice. As cross-border cooperation intensifies, the investigation continues to underscore the complexities of international criminal probes and Assam’s collective pursuit of truth and justice for one of its most beloved cultural figures.
