Guwahati: The investigation into the mysterious death of Assam’s legendary singer Zubeen Garg has entered a crucial phase as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday interrogated two Assamese-origin Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who were reportedly present at the Singapore yacht party on the night of the tragic incident.
The two individuals — Tanmay Phukan and Abhimanyu Talukdar — appeared before the CID headquarters in Guwahati on Monday morning. According to sources, both were questioned extensively about their knowledge of the events that unfolded before Garg’s untimely demise.
Investigative sources revealed that Phukan and Talukdar were among a select group of guests at the private yacht gathering in Singapore, where the acclaimed artiste was last seen alive. Officials believe their statements could be pivotal in shedding light on the final hours leading up to the singer’s death.
Authorities said the ongoing interrogation seeks to reconstruct the timeline of events, interactions, and activities that took place during the yacht party. The CID aims to identify inconsistencies or uncover new leads that could clarify the circumstances surrounding Garg’s death.
Two other Assamese expatriates — Sushmita Goswami and Debojit Hazarika — who were also reportedly present at the same event, are expected to appear before CID officials in the coming days for questioning.
Simultaneously, the CID is working closely with Singaporean authorities to obtain CCTV footage, digital communications, and forensic reports to cross-verify witness statements and strengthen the investigation with concrete evidence.
Zubeen Garg’s sudden death in Singapore last month has plunged Assam into grief and triggered widespread public outrage, with fans, cultural organizations, and civil society demanding a transparent and thorough probe.
Officials described Monday’s interrogation as a significant milestone in the investigation, which is expected to intensify in the coming days as more witnesses and persons of interest are summoned to aid in uncovering the truth behind the beloved artiste’s mysterious demise.
