Clashes Between Two Families Over Land Dispute in Uzanpetla

Tamarhat: A violent clash broke out today between two families over a land dispute in Uzanpetla village under Tamarhat Police Station in Dhubri district. As a result of the confrontation, three persons from both families were seriously injured. According to reports, an old dispute had been ongoing between village residents Jalil Sheikh and Abdul Majid Sheikh regarding a particular plot of land in Uzanpetla. Amid this prolonged conflict, last night Jalil Sheikh constructed a house on the disputed plot.

This morning, upon seeing the newly built house, members of Abdul Majid Sheikh’s family set it on fire. Following this, both families launched attacks and counter-attacks using sticks and sharp weapons. As a result, Jalil Sheikh from one side and Abdul Majid Sheikh and Sadeq Ali Sheikh from the other side sustained serious injuries. Local residents rescued the three severely injured persons from the spot and admitted them to the Tamarhat Mini Primary Health Centre. Meanwhile, at the hospital, one side allegedly attempted to attack members of the other side again, which caused further tension.

However, due to the timely intervention of responsible locals present there, the situation was brought under control. Later, all three seriously injured individuals were referred to Dhubri Medical College for advanced treatment, though one of them is reported to be in critical condition. It is noteworthy that locals had tried several times to resolve the long-standing dispute over the plot of land, but neither party agreed to any settlement. Both families have been claiming ownership of the disputed land. Concerned citizens have urged the police administration to take the matter more seriously in order to prevent further clashes in the future.
