Chirang: Tension flared in Nichima (No. 16) constituency of Chirang district on Sunday after violent clashes broke out between supporters of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) during the ongoing election campaign.
According to initial reports, supporters of UPPL candidate Ranjit Basumatary allegedly attacked the election office of BPF candidate James Basumatary at Domboru Bazar. The mob reportedly vandalized the office premises and damaged at least three four-wheeler vehicles belonging to BPF workers, using hammers to smash the windshields and body frames.

Meanwhile, BPF candidate James Basumatary lodged a formal complaint at Amguri Police Station, naming UPPL supporters allegedly responsible for the attack. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway.
