CM Conrad Sangma Lays Foundation for PHC Renovation and Mini Stadium in East Garo Hills

Shillong, March 5: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on March 5 laid the foundation stone for the renovation of the Main Primary Health Centre building along with staff quarters, additional GNM quarters and a yoga-cum-meeting hall at Mangsang Primary Health Centre in East Garo Hills district.

The health facility has been serving residents of the region for more than three decades, and the proposed renovation aims to upgrade its infrastructure to meet the increasing healthcare demands of the area. The project also includes improved residential accommodation for medical personnel, which is expected to help retain doctors and nurses in the region and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for local communities.

Addressing the gathering, Sangma highlighted the importance of strengthening primary healthcare infrastructure in rural areas. He noted that better-equipped primary health centres would not only make healthcare services more accessible and affordable for residents but would also help reduce the burden on higher medical institutions.

On the same occasion, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a Mini Stadium at Mangsang, which will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹4.73 crore. The existing ground in the area has long served as a hub for football players, sports enthusiasts and residents from surrounding villages.

The new stadium will replace the old and deteriorating gallery with modern infrastructure, creating a better venue for sports activities, tournaments and community events. Once completed, the facility is expected to encourage greater participation in sports while also serving as a gathering space for residents in the district.
