Chief Minister announces special fund of Rs. 1,000 crore for road and bridge construction in BTR


Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday attended the central programme of the 24th Bodoland Day celebrations held at Green Park, Kokrajhar, organised by the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC). On the occasion, he announced a special fund of ₹1,000 crore for the construction of roads and bridges in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) over the next two to three years. Extending warm greetings to the people of BTC, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma and Bodofa Upendranath Brahma. Recalling the signing of the historic BTC Accord on February 10, 2003, under the leadership of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he said the creation of BTC brought transformative changes to Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri districts.

Dr Sarma highlighted major milestones achieved after the accord, including the establishment of Bodoland University, Central Institute of Technology and Kokrajhar Medical College. He also referred to the Bodo Peace Accord of 2020, which further accelerated development, leading to the creation of Tamulpur district and other key initiatives. Congratulating the people of BTR for maintaining peace amid recent incidents in Kokrajhar, the Chief Minister appreciated the leadership of BTC Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary. Emphasising connectivity as a development priority, he announced enhanced investment in infrastructure and financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each to 15,000 youths for self-employment without collateral.

The Chief Minister also announced plans to showcase Assam’s cultural heritage nationally, including a grand cultural programme in New Delhi, and revealed that a ‘Bodoland Guest House’ would be constructed in Chennai for patients and families seeking advanced medical treatment. Several dignitaries, including ministers, MLAs and BTC leaders, attended the programme.
