CM Dr Sarma distributes cheques of MMUA at Jamugurihat

Biswanath Chariali: The chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed cheques under MMUA (Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan) today at Jamugurihat. A total of 31,045 women under Naduar LAC of Sonitpur district received Rs 10,000 each as a seed capital to enhance their self-employment venture. The scheme aims to support women SHG (Self-help Group) members to become rural micro entrepreneurs/ Lakhpati baideu and facilitate them to earn an annual income minimum one lakh. The ceremonial cheque distribution programme of MMUA was held at Pokamura Pothar of historic Baresohoriya Bhaona site. 

Addressing the huge public gathering at historic Pokamura Pothar here, Dr Sarma stated about various welfare schemes undertaken by the state as well as the union government. He stressed on the need and importance of the issue of women empowerment. He also added that his government is committed to fulfill all the commitments scripted on the election manifesto.

Addressing the media gathering the chief minister Dr Sarma said that the ceremonial distribution of the cheques of MMUA in the two LACs of Sonitpur district respectively Naduar and Dhekiajuli is over, the ceremonial distribution of the rest of three LACs of Sonitpur Rangapara, Borchala and Tezpur will be held shortly. Replying to a question, chief minister Dr Sarma said that his government is committed to give justice to Zubeen Garg, the musical legend. The SIT is working round the clock for proper findings. The charge sheet of the Zubeen Garg murder case will be submitted before December 8, he added. He further added he briefed the matter of Zubeen Garg to union home minister Amit Shah during his meeting with him in New Delhi yesterday. The state government will bring a new act on polygamy on November 25 in the state assembly. He expressed deep condolences on the untimely demise of international flute player Dipak Sarma. He said that his demise is an irreparable loss to the cultural life of the state.

The ceremony of cheque distribution under MMUA scheme was attended by minister for water resources Pijush Hazarika, Tezpur HPC MP Ranjit Dutta, Naduar MLA Padma Hazarika, MLAs Prithibiraj Rabha, Pramod Borthakur, Ganesh Kumar Limbu, Krishna Kamal Tanti, Diganta Ghatowal among others. Naduar MLA Padma Hazarika conducted the proceedings.

After it, the chief minister visited the proposed site of Swahid Kanaklata Barua University at Bholaguri Tea Estate, Gohpur, to review the preparations ahead of the visit of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the foundation stone laying ceremony on November 8.
