CM Dr. Sarma Distributes Seed Capital to Over 14,600 Women Under MMUA

Dhakuakhana: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday distributed seed capital to 14,621 eligible women from self-help groups under the Mukhyamantrir Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA) in the Ghilamara development block, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to building a strong society through empowered women. The seed capital distribution programme was held at the Ghilamara Block Playground, where the Chief Minister arrived around 2 pm from Dhemaji. The beneficiaries belonged to 10 development sectors under the Ghilamara development block.

Lakhimpur district guardian minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, MP Pradan Baruah, Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Doley, Majuli MLA Bhuban Gam, Lakhimpur Zilla Parishad president Saniya Borgohain and several other dignitaries were present at the event, which was attended by thousands of people, including members of women self-help groups. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Dr Sarma said more than 36,000 women entrepreneurs from Dhakuakhana and Ghilamara would benefit from the women entrepreneurship scheme. He told the beneficiaries that the ₹10,000 assistance was not the end but only the beginning, and announced that women would receive further financial support after becoming “Lakhpati Baideu”. He also announced additional assistance of ₹2,000 and benefits under the Orunodoi scheme for eligible women in the region.

The Chief Minister further said that from February 1, the state government would bear the educational expenses of children from poor families. Sarma also claimed that security agencies have apprehended a number of people who had allegedly entered Assam from Bangladesh in recent times. Referring to the neighbouring country, he said incidents of torture against Hindus in Bangladesh have increased, making it necessary for people to remain cautious and vigilant. “Till the elections are over, all of us must maintain unity and peace,” he added. According to police, in December last year, 11 people were arrested in Assam and Tripura for their alleged links with Bangladesh-based fundamentalist groups that were attempting to destabilise the Northeast. With the scheme now covering 70 Assembly constituencies, the Chief Minister said a new era of women-led development is unfolding in the state, empowering women to become self-reliant and active contributors to the economy.
