CM Dr. Sarma pays rich tributes to Zubeen Garg on his birthday; donates blood

Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on the occasion of the 53rd birthday of Zubeen Garg, paid a rich floral tribute to the cultural legend at a shraddhanjali programme held at Khanapara here today. The Chief Minister, on the occasion as a mark of humble tribute to the artist’s enduring legacy, donated blood.

         It may be noted that as a mark of respect to Zubeen Garg on his 53rd birthday, blood donation camps were organized at 53 locations across the state, as the Chief Minister leading others from the front donated blood. He said, “Today marks the 53rd birthday of our beloved Zubeen Garg. A day that reminds us of his music, his voice and his irreplaceable place in Assam’s heart. We will keep our Zubeen alive in our hearts through his timeless creations.”

         Dr. Sarma also said that Zubeen Garg is a singer of the poor and needy, therefore, on his birthday, blood donation camps have been organized so that the poor and under-privileged get benefitted.

         Chief Minister Dr. Sarma moreover said that consequent upon the death of Zubeen Garg in Singapore on 19 September, the State government constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the death of the legend. Thanking Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said the union Home minister has granted the required sanction under Section 208 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to proceed against the accused, linked to Zubeen’s death in Singapore. It may be noted that Section 208 of BNSS means that if a crime is committed outside India, the case can be taken up by the court only after the Central government gives prior sanction. He said, “On the birthday of the cultural icon Zubeen Garg, this sanction is therefore, a crucial legal step, allowing us to file a charge sheet and move forward firmly and lawfully for trial of the case.”

         Dr. Sarma said that the government is committed to file the charge sheet against the accused persons within 10 December, 2025. He on the occasion also conveyed his gratitude to all including the Health and Family Welfare Department for making these blood donation camps a resounding success.
