Dhakuakhana: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to visit the constituency on January 7 with a major development agenda. During his visit, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stones of several ambitious projects worth around ₹290 crore and participate in key public programmes.
According to official sources, Dr Sarma will first arrive at Ghilamara in Dhakuakhana sub-division on Wednesday. At 12.30 pm, he will attend a cheque distribution programme under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Asoni, organised at the playground of the Ghilamara Block Development Officer’s office. Around 36,000 women beneficiaries from the Dhakuakhana sub-division will receive financial assistance under the scheme.
Later in the afternoon, at around 2.30 pm, the Chief Minister will reach Matmora, where he will lay the foundation stone of a major flood and erosion control project on the Brahmaputra embankment. The project, to be implemented with financial assistance of about ₹150 crore from the Asian Development Bank, aims to provide long-term protection against floods and riverbank erosion.

From the same venue, Dr Sarma will also virtually inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of three other important projects. These include the upgradation of the Dhakuakhana Civil Hospital from 100 beds to 200 beds at an estimated cost of ₹78 crore along with the construction of doctors’ quarters, the Phase-I development of the historic Vasudev Than Narowa Satra at a cost of ₹12.68 crore, and the development of the heritage-rich Faat Bihu Kshetra with an outlay of ₹40 crore. He will also inaugurate the newly constructed Dhakuakhana district BJP office building in the heart of the town.
Preparations for the Chief Minister’s visit are in full swing, with party workers and the sub-divisional administration working in coordination. On Monday evening, Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu and local MLA Naba Kumar Doley visited the meeting venue along with administrative and police officials to review arrangements.
