CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Accuses Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Son of Being ‘Anti-Assam’

Body:

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and his son Priyank Kharge, accusing both of being “anti-Assam.”

Addressing a press conference, Dr Sarma said, “The Congress President insulted the revered Bhupen Hazarika, and now his son has insulted the youth of Assam. It is clear — both father and son are anti-Assam.”

The Chief Minister was responding to a recent remark by Priyank Kharge, who had questioned the feasibility of setting up a semiconductor project in Assam, reportedly stating that the state’s ecosystem would not support such an initiative. He also disputed government claims that 15,000 youths had received training under the semiconductor mission.

Refuting the comment, Dr Sarma said, “No, 15,000 youths have not gone there for training — this is misinformation spread by Mallikarjun Kharge’s son. His comments show complete ignorance about Assam’s capabilities and the strength of our youth.”

Recalling a past controversy, the Chief Minister alleged that even when Bhupen Hazarika was conferred the Bharat Ratna, Mallikarjun Kharge had made “very shameful comments.”

“The entire Kharge family seems to carry an anti-Assam mindset — the father insulted Bhupen Hazarika, and now the son is insulting Assam’s youth,” Dr Sarma said.

Urging the Congress leadership to take responsibility, he added, “The Congress party should explain to Priyank Kharge what Assam’s culture, spirit, and youth power represent. It is their duty to make him understand the history and pride of Assam.”
