Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 7 raised grave concerns over possible negligence during the filming of Zubeen Garg’s last movie Roi Roi Binale, stating that the late singer-actor had been strictly advised by doctors to avoid the sea and fire. Speaking to reporters, Sarma said he had been informed that despite explicit medical instructions from specialists at Nemcare Hospital, Zubeen filmed crucial scenes at a seaside location, reportedly in Sri Lanka.
The Chief Minister noted that he had not yet watched the movie but planned to do so in January 2026. He said his foremost question after viewing it would be how Zubeen was allowed to work so close to the sea, given his doctors’ warnings. Sarma added that when members of the film’s production team met him previously, he had directly asked them how they permitted Zubeen to enter seawater during the shoot.
Sarma emphasised that the doctors had been clear in their directives, advising Zubeen to stay away from both seawater and fire. He reiterated that the footage in question appeared to have been captured along the shoreline, raising questions about compliance with medical precautions.
The Chief Minister also announced that he would skip the upcoming Post Malone concert, stating that his priority was to watch Zubeen’s final film and understand the circumstances surrounding the shoot. He hinted at a fresh inquiry following the ongoing investigation into Zubeen’s death, saying there would be an additional probe specifically to determine how the filming took place in seawater despite medical restrictions.
Zubeen Garg, one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, passed away recently, leaving the state in collective mourning. With Sarma’s remarks, the investigation into his demise is now likely to expand, shifting focus not only to medical factors but also to whether safety instructions were disregarded during the production of his last film.
