Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sparked curiosity on 17 November after sharing a video of the Bhelughat Waterfall in Karbi Anglong, drawing a cinematic comparison to the iconic waterfall sequence from the film Baahubali. His post on X suggested that the real-life spectacle in Assam was no less impressive than the Athirappilly Falls in Kerala, where the movie’s famed scene was filmed.
Sarma wrote that those who admired the legendary Baahubali waterfall would be “spellbound” by Bhelughat, describing it as a stunning curtain of water surrounded by lush cliffs and offering the perfect adventure escape.
The Bhelughat, also known as the Dikrutpi Waterfall, lies about four hours from Guwahati and is known for its dramatic monsoon flow. The waterfall cascaded over rugged cliffs against dense green forests, creating a scene that resembled a cinematic backdrop. Visitors can reach the site without trekking, making it an accessible yet seemingly untouched destination.
The video quickly gained attention online, with many noting that Assam’s natural landscapes could rival famous locations across India. The post also prompted renewed interest in Karbi Anglong’s scenic beauty, highlighting the region as a potential draw for travellers seeking dramatic, movie-like vistas.
