Congress Leaders’ Convoy Attacked in Sootea Ahead of Campaign Rally

Sootea: Tension flared in Sootea on Thursday, February 12 after a convoy carrying senior Congress leaders, including MP Gaurav Gogoi, came under attack by unidentified miscreants ahead of a scheduled campaign rally. Stones were allegedly hurled at the vehicles, resulting in damage and prompting the party to lodge a formal police complaint.

According to party sources, the incident occurred on February 12 while the Congress delegation, comprising Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, Congress leaders Ripun Bora, Debabrata Saikia, and MP Rakibul Hussain, was en route to address an election campaign gathering in the area. Several vehicles in the convoy were reportedly vandalised during the attack. However, no injuries were reported among the leaders or their supporters, sources confirmed.

Condemning the incident, Assam Congress leaders termed the attack an attempt to disrupt democratic political activity and demanded immediate action against those responsible. A formal complaint has been filed with the police, seeking identification and arrest of the miscreants involved. Meanwhile, Congress leaders condemning the incident, protested and demanded immediate action from the administration  against the miscreants.  Police have initiated an inquiry into the incident. Security arrangements in the area are expected to be reviewed following the attack.
