SILCHAR, September 10: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has announced candidates for 39 wards in the upcoming Silchar Municipality Election, with the list approved by APCC president Gaurav Gogoi.
According to an APCC circular issued on September 9, the party has fielded candidates in wards 1–19, 22–33 and 35–42.
The candidates are Nazmin Sultana Borbhuiya (Ward 1), Sahin Akhtar Mazumdar (Ward 2), Jhuma Das (Ward 3), Susmita Das (Ward 4), Rahul Das (Ward 5), Ranjit Debnath (Ward 6), Radha Das (Ward 7), Bandita Trivedi (Ward 8), Amalendu Dey (Ward 9), Rinku Rani Das (Ward 10), John Barik (Ward 11), Mausumi Das (Ward 12), Binoy Krishna Das (Ward 13), Joya Bardhan (Ward 14), Nirupama Singha (Ward 15), Nazir Hussain Laskar (Ward 16), Salma Begum Laskar (Ward 17), Tapas Das (Ward 18) and Payal Das (Ward 19).
For wards 22–33, the Congress has nominated Anjana Dev (Ward 22), Moumita Paul (Ward 23), Nooresha Begum (Ward 24), Lucky Bg Mazumdar (Ward 25), Haidar Hussain Laskar (Ward 26), Susmita Das (Ward 27), Protima Dutta (Ward 28), Sanchita Acharjee (Ward 29), Sakshi Banik (Ward 30), Joy Das Gupta (Ward 31), Kalpana Sinha (Ward 32) and Priyanka Dhar (Ward 33).
For wards 35–42, the candidates are Alina Roy (Ward 35), Joyati Bhattacharjee (Ward 36), Ria Paul (Ward 37), Debashis Das (Ward 38), Tapan Das (Ward 39), Hakim Uddin Laskar (Ward 40), Rajasree Goala (Ward 41) and Pappu Yadav (Ward 42).
The APCC directed the concerned District Congress Committee office-bearers, Block and Mandal Congress Committees and party workers to extend cooperation and support to the candidates.
The party also instructed its organisational units and workers to maintain coordination during the campaign and work collectively for candidates in their respective wards.
The announcement marked the Congress’s formal entry into the Silchar municipal election contest, with campaigning expected to focus on ward-level issues and local civic concerns.
