Conrad K Sangma Condemns Sunil Deodhar’s Alleged Remarks, Says Law Will Take Its Course

Shillong, Feb 27: Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday, February 26 condemned the alleged derogatory remarks made by senior BJP leader Sunil Deodhar and said the state government is taking appropriate steps to address the matter.

The controversy surfaced after comments attributed to Deodhar, perceived as mocking Christians and Jesus Christ, sparked protests across Meghalaya. The remarks drew strong reactions from different sections of society, prompting the BJP’s state unit to seek an apology. Deodhar subsequently expressed regret over the incident.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said the government is aware of the issue and that necessary steps are being taken. He added that the law would take its own course and urged citizens to maintain peace and restraint.

The Chief Minister underlined the importance of preserving communal harmony in the state and assured that the matter would be dealt with strictly in accordance with legal provisions.
