Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Friday inaugurated the Care For India (CFI) Centre at Nonglum, Umroi, in Ri Bhoi district and announced plans to introduce foreign language training at the organisation’s nursing college to boost overseas employment prospects for students.
The newly opened retreat centre is set to serve as a quiet space for visitors, complementing the existing nursing college which has been training students from Meghalaya and other parts of the North East for careers in the healthcare sector. The initiative aims to strengthen opportunities for young professionals as demand for trained healthcare workers continues to grow globally.
During the inauguration, Sangma said the state government would collaborate with the institution to offer foreign language courses, enabling students to pursue employment abroad and support their families. He said the initiative aligns with the government’s vision to expand avenues for youth through skill-based education and global exposure.
In a social media statement following the event, the Chief Minister expressed appreciation to CFI for its role in creating new pathways for the region’s students. He noted that the partnership would help “strengthen and advance our shared mission of empowering the youth and serving our communities.”
The nursing institute at Umroi has been preparing students for professional roles in healthcare, a field that has emerged as a major source of employment in the North East. With the addition of foreign language training, state officials believe the institute will play an even larger role in supporting students seeking international placement opportunities.
