Shillong, June 7: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has congratulated the Indian women’s football team on clinching the SAFF Women’s Championship title and praised Meghalaya footballer Sanfida Nongrum for her outstanding contribution to the victorious campaign.
In a post on X, Sangma commended the Indian side, popularly known as the Blue Tigresses, for reclaiming the SAFF Women’s Championship trophy after a gap of seven years following their win over Bangladesh in the final.
The Chief Minister also singled out Nongrum for special recognition after the Meghalaya player scored in the championship match and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
“The #BlueTigresses bring the SAFF Women’s Championship trophy back home after 7 years! A phenomenal game against Bangladesh. Congratulations Team India!” Sangma wrote.
Highlighting Nongrum’s role in the title-winning campaign, the Chief Minister described her achievement as a proud moment for Meghalaya and acknowledged her contribution to India’s success on the regional stage.
“Special shout-out to Meghalaya’s Sanfida Nongrum for securing a goal in the final match and for being recognised as the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. We are proud of Team India!” he added.
India’s victory in the SAFF Women’s Championship marks a significant achievement for the national team, while Nongrum’s performance has drawn praise from football enthusiasts and sports supporters across Meghalaya.
