Guwahati, Jan 25: A goods-laden container vehicle crashed into a railing pillar on Assam’s Kaliabhomora bridge early Sunday morning, January 25, briefly disrupting traffic on the vital river crossing.
The accident occurred in the early hours on the old Kaliabhomora bridge when the container, transporting four-wheeler vehicles, reportedly lost control while crossing the bridge. The heavy vehicle rammed into a railing post with considerable force, leaving the container precariously suspended and partially hanging over the side.
Traffic movement was affected for a short period as police and emergency teams rushed to the spot and took measures to secure the vehicle and prevent further mishaps. The driver narrowly escaped without sustaining serious injuries.
Authorities said normal traffic flow was restored after initial clearance operations. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, though overspeeding and loss of control are suspected.
