Court Orders Attachment of Second Accused’s Property in Jagiroad Fake Recruitment Scam

Guwahati, Jan 4: A local court has ordered the attachment of the property of a second accused in connection with a fake recruitment scam linked to the under-construction Tata Semiconductor project at Jagiroad, following a prompt investigation by Morigaon police.

The case dates back to 2025, when a fraud racket allegedly circulated fake job advertisements in the name of the Tata Semiconductor project and collected large sums of money from unemployed youths by promising employment. The project authorities later lodged a complaint at Jagiroad Police Station.

Police launched an investigation and arrested several accused, including a lecturer of Hatichong College identified as Saikul Islam. Investigators found that the accused had collectively duped job seekers of around Rs 25 lakh through fraudulent means.

After completion of the probe, police submitted a charge sheet before the court. Subsequently, invoking Section 107, the court ordered the attachment of the property of the Hatichong College lecturer, making it the second property attachment in the case.

Officials said Morigaon police had earlier, acting on court directions, also attached the property of another cyber fraud accused linked to the same recruitment scam.
