Silchar: In a decisive move against black marketing of fuel, the Cachar District Administration, in coordination with the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC), carried out raids on hotels and restaurants found using subsidized domestic LPG cylinders for commercial cooking.
The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner Unhale Ashish Vidyadhar, IAS, along with officials from SMC, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), and LPG distributors, was triggered by public complaints and intelligence inputs. Several eateries were found violating norms that mandate the use of non-subsidized commercial cylinders for business purposes.

Authorities highlighted that such illegal diversion not only creates shortages for households but also poses major fire hazards. SMC Commissioner Srishti Singh, IAS, warned of zero tolerance against violators, cautioning that penalties and license cancellations will be imposed on offenders.
Assistant Commissioner Ashish underlined that this was just the beginning of regular inspections to curb LPG misuse. Distributors have been directed to strengthen supply monitoring. Civic groups welcomed the move, terming it a necessary step to protect both public safety and fair access.

Officials confirmed that offenders may face action under the Essential Commodities Act, sending a strong message that misuse of domestic LPG will not be tolerated.
