Daily Wage Labourer Killed in Dumper Accident in Assam’s Charaideo

Charaideo, April 30: A daily wage labourer lost his life after being run over by a soil-laden dumper truck allegedly involved in illegal transportation in Charaideo district, triggering concern among residents over unregulated heavy vehicle movement in the area.

The deceased, Haren Rajuwar, was a resident of Lukhurakhan village under the Kanubari area. He was known locally for supporting his family through daily wage work and had previously served as secretary of the ATSA Kanubari branch.

According to local accounts, the incident took place on April 28 at around 5:30 pm when the dumper, reportedly engaged in unauthorised soil transport, struck Rajuwar. The collision proved fatal, with the victim dying at the scene due to severe injuries.

The incident has heightened anxiety in Lukhurakhan village and nearby areas, where residents allege frequent and reckless movement of dumper trucks linked to illegal soil extraction activities. Locals claim that excavation, transportation and sale of soil have been taking place openly in the Kanubari region.

Residents have also raised allegations that those involved in such activities continue operations with the support or inaction of certain officials from the Forest Department and other authorities. The fatal accident has intensified public anger, with calls growing louder for immediate intervention.

Demanding accountability, locals have urged the district administration to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident and take strict legal action against those responsible for both the alleged illegal operations and the death.
