Barpeta Road: In a sensational incident, jewellery worth approximately Rs 4 crore was looted from a showroom in Barpeta Road in broad daylight on Thursday, triggering panic in the busy commercial area. According to police sources, a five-member gang entered the Senco Gold & Diamonds showroom, located in the heart of the town, posing as customers. The accused were reportedly armed with pistols and held around nine to ten employees at gunpoint.
The robbers allegedly threatened the staff with severe consequences and continued the looting operation for nearly half an hour. During the incident, some employees were reportedly assaulted, while the miscreants vandalised CCTV cameras in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence before fleeing with a large quantity of gold and diamond ornaments. The daring nature of the crime has shocked residents, as the showroom is situated in a crowded market area and is barely 100 metres away from the Barpeta Road Police Station.

Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and began preliminary investigations. Senior officials inspected the scene, and efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused by examining available leads and collecting statements from staff and eyewitnesses. Further investigation is in progress, and security in the area has been tightened following the incident.
