Debate Emerges Over Visiting Hours at Zubeen Garg’s Memorial

Guwahati: A discussion has surfaced regarding the permitted visiting hours at the memorial site of artiste Zubeen Garg, following an appeal made to the government by Garima Saikia Garg seeking an extension of the closing time from 10 PM to 12 midnight.

Garima requested the change to allow more people to pay their respects, stating that many fans arrive in the evenings after work and face time constraints under the current schedule.

However, United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) Chief Paresh Baruah expressed disagreement with the proposal, questioning the necessity of late-night visits. “Who pays respect to whom on earth at 12 midnight?” he remarked. “Paying respect once in the morning and once in the evening is enough. There is no need to keep it open until 12 midnight.”

The matter has sparked varied public reactions, with many sharing differing views on whether the memorial should remain accessible late into the night. The government has yet to announce any decision regarding the requested change in timing.
