Entertainment, March 26: Def Leppard turned Shillong into a pulsating hub of classic rock with a high-energy performance that marked the opening night of their India tour, drawing a packed crowd and reinforcing the city’s reputation as a key destination for rock music in the country.
The evening began with indie pop-rock act Trance Effect, whose lively set quickly connected with the audience. Songs such as I’m On Your Side, More Love and Clowns blended contemporary elements with rock influences, building momentum ahead of the headline performance.
As Def Leppard took the stage, the atmosphere intensified, with the band delivering a tightly executed set featuring powerful vocals, signature guitar work and polished stage presence. Moving across decades of their music, the performance reflected both consistency and a strong engagement with the audience.
Popular tracks including Hysteria, Photograph, Rock of Ages, Animal and Foolin’ drew enthusiastic sing-alongs, while the closing number, Pour Some Sugar on Me, brought the concert to a peak, ending the night on a high note.
Organisers said the turnout and audience response underscore the growing scale and appeal of live rock events in India, with international acts increasingly touring the country to meet rising demand.
The Shillong concert was produced and promoted by BookMyShow Live. The tour will now head to Mumbai before concluding in Bengaluru, continuing what organisers describe as a strong phase for live rock performances across India.
