The accused officer, identified as ASI Virandar Kumar of Ashram Police Station, allegedly entered a shop near Jeewan Hospital around 10 AM in search of alcohol without a warrant. A young woman present at the shop objected to his actions. Despite her protest, Kumar continued the search, found nothing, and then allegedly grabbed her face and touched her inappropriately, leaving her traumatised, sources said.

Soon after the incident, representatives of the Northeast community gathered at the police station demanding a fair investigation and strict legal action. At the time of filing this report, no FIR had been registered.

Community leaders later met the ACP of Lajpat Nagar, who confirmed that the officer had been suspended pending an inquiry.

The case has sparked anger among Northeast students and organisations in the capital, who stressed that if law enforcers themselves become perpetrators, it raises serious concerns about accountability and the safety of vulnerable groups.
