Delhi Red Fort Explosion: Nine Dead, 21 Injured

Guwahati: A blast outside Red Fort Metro Station Gate No. 1, near the Gaurishankar Temple, sent shockwaves through central Delhi on Sunday evening, triggering panic among commuters and locals. The explosion, reported at around 6:55 PM, occurred in a car parked near the metro gate, leading to a major fire that spread rapidly to nearby vehicles.

According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), “A call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage.” Later reports confirmed that 37 vehicles were affected by the blaze.

Sources said nine people were killed and 21 others injured in the incident. The injured have been shifted to LNJP Hospital for treatment. The Delhi Police, Fire Department, and Disaster Response teams rushed to the spot, with seven fire tenders deployed to douse the flames.

The Bomb Squad, dog squad, and forensic teams are currently examining the site, while officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have joined the probe.

Delhi Police Commissioner has briefed Home Secretary Govind Mohan, and more than 25 senior police officers are on the ground overseeing rescue and investigation operations.

The area surrounding Lal Quila and Chandni Chowk has been sealed within a 5 km radius, and the fire is now under control. Authorities are investigating the cause of the explosion, and further details are awaited.
