Karbi Anglong: A major fire engulfed the home of Dil Bahadur Gurung in Hawaipur last night around 9:30 PM, completely destroying the property and leaving the family with nothing.
The house, situated between Hawaipur Baptist English School (HBES) and the Veterinary Sub Centre (Lama Gaon) under Kheroni Police Station, was reduced to ashes, consuming furniture, cash, clothes, important documents, ornaments, utensils, and food supplies.

Sources reported that no one was present in the house at the time of the fire. The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown, and local residents immediately alerted the fire brigade. However, a delayed response of 1–2 hours allowed the fire to completely engulf the home. Residents expressed frustration over the lack of a local fire service in Hawaipur, which they say often hinders emergency responses.
The Gurung family has appealed for urgent financial assistance and support from the government and the local community to meet immediate needs and begin recovery. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and further updates are awaited.
