DHAKUAKHANA, Sept 29: A joint meeting of the four branches of the Senior Citizens’ Forum under Dhakuakhana co-district was held at Megamix Nature Club in Dhakuakhana on Monday, with representatives discussing organisational issues and preparations for International Day of Older Persons.
The meeting, convened by the Dhakuakhana branch, was attended by 52 representatives, including men and women, from the Ghilamara, West Machkhowa, West Dhakuakhana and Dhakuakhana branches. It was chaired by Ghilamara branch office-bearer Dimbeswar Chetia.
The meeting discussed the constitutional aspects of forming a Dhakuakhana co-district committee. Members expressed concern over the need to travel to the North Lakhimpur headquarters for organisational and administrative matters, citing the distance, financial costs and loss of time.
A Resolution Effort Committee comprising representatives from all four branches was subsequently formed to pursue a constitutional solution to the issue at the state level.
The meeting also decided that all four branches would observe the International Day of Older Persons on October 1. The programmes will include planting and tending saplings, felicitating five senior citizens for their contributions to society and holding interactive sessions among senior citizens.
The forum members also pledged their cooperation and participation in programmes organised by the local administration on the occasion, in accordance with directives from the Commissioner.
