Guwahati, May 4: With the Bharatiya Janata Party registering strong leads in both Assam and West Bengal during the ongoing vote counting, party leader Dilip Saikia on May 4 described the trends as a “historic mandate” and expressed gratitude to voters.
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, Saikia said the early trends reflected public confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He thanked the electorate in both states for what he termed a decisive show of support for the BJP’s leadership.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance has maintained a commanding lead in Assam, moving towards a third consecutive term in office, while the party has also made significant electoral gains in West Bengal as counting progresses.
