Diphu gets major makeover: ₹2,109 Cr development blitz includes Cancer Hospital, Solar Plant & New Sainik School

Karbi Anglong: In a major push for development in Assam’s hill districts, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for more than 100 development projects totaling ₹.2,109 crore in Diphu, Karbi Anglong district. The event, held at Rangsina Sarpo Ahongjai, Taralangso, focused on transforming infrastructure, healthcare, education, tourism, and road connectivity across the region. Dr. Sarma, who was the chief guest, underlined the government’s dedication to inclusive and equitable growth, especially in hill areas, to drive economic progress, improve living standards, and promote regional integration.

Key dignitaries present included: Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang, Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr. Numal Momin, Guardian Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Diphu MLA Bidyasing Engleng, Baithalangso MLA Rupsing Teron, Howraghat MLA Dorsing Ronghang, Chairman and Deputy Speaker of KAAC, Executive Members, MAC of KAAC, and other local leaders. The package featured: 54 inaugurations worth approximately ₹.816 crore, 53 foundation stone-laying ceremonies for projects valued at ₹.1,293 crore.

Among the major highlights are: Diphu Cancer Centre ₹.270 crore, 4-Lane Khorsing Terang Flyover ₹.228 crore, 42 MW Solar Power Plant, Bonglong Terang ₹.202 crore, Four-laning from East Division Forest Office to St. Anthony English School, Birla ₹.152 crore, Assam’s second Sainik School at Langvoku ₹.365 crore, Hotel & Tourism Management Institute, Diphu ₹.63 crore. Upgraded and widened roads, including: 4-laning Mahatma Gandhi Park Road to Lumding Gandhi University Campus ₹.105 crore, Kheroni-Rongpangbong (Kheronighat-Zirikinding) ₹.75 crore, other road upgrades totaling hundreds of crores, Government Model Degree College, West Karbi Anglong ₹.35 crore, Diphu Town Lake development ₹.16 crore, KASA Billangvek Swimming Pool, Diphu ₹.21 crore, newly constructed KAAC main entrance gate, Multiple bridge constructions and additional road improvements.

These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance healthcare access, bolster educational facilities, promote sustainable energy, strengthen tourism infrastructure, and improve overall connectivity in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong district. The Chief Minister stressed that such large-scale investments demonstrate the state’s priority on balanced development while respecting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region. Locals described the occasion as a historic milestone, set to turn Diphu into a more modern, self-reliant, and vibrant hub for the district and beyond.
