Guwahati, March 28: D. K. Shivakumar on March 28 confirmed that he will campaign in Assam and Kerala as part of the Indian National Congress outreach ahead of upcoming elections, while alleging corruption and administrative shortcomings in Assam.
Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said he would soon travel to Assam to take part in election campaigning, indicating that the party is stepping up efforts beyond Karnataka. He stressed that the Congress is working in a coordinated manner across states to strengthen its electoral position. “I have to go to Assam and Kerala… we have to look after all states and do campaigning,” he said.
Targeting the incumbent government, Shivakumar alleged that Assam has witnessed “rampant corruption” and a decline in administrative efficiency over the past decade. He claimed that governance structures have weakened, leading to difficulties for the public. According to him, “people are suffering and the common man is not getting justice,” while also alleging inadequate protection for citizens and failure to address key issues.
The Congress leader further stated that several promises made during earlier elections, particularly those related to caste and land matters, remain unfulfilled. He suggested that these issues have contributed to growing dissatisfaction among voters.
Expressing confidence in his party’s prospects, Shivakumar said that public discontent could translate into electoral gains, asserting that people in Assam are seeking change.
He also claimed that there is internal unease within the Bharatiya Janata Party following the release of its candidate list, alleging dissatisfaction among party workers. Shivakumar further suggested that some members could extend indirect support to Congress candidates, although no independent confirmation of such claims has emerged.
