Nazira: Residents of Holongamora village, located along the Assam–Arunachal Pradesh border under the Sonari Legislative Assembly constituency in Sapekhati Mouza, are facing an acute drinking water crisis, forcing families to struggle daily for safe water. Water scarcity has emerged as one of the most serious challenges in the border village. Villagers said repeated attempts to dig tube wells in areas close to the hilly terrain of Arunachal Pradesh have failed, as adequate groundwater sources could not be found.
The situation has worsened this year due to significantly low rainfall. Local ponds, wells and natural streams have dried up completely, leaving the land parched and cracked. With no nearby sources available, residents are compelled to walk several kilometres to fetch water from natural springs in the distant Gujarating hills just to meet their basic daily needs.

In many cases, villagers are forced to consume water from an unclean pond, raising serious health concerns. Locals report an increase in water-borne diseases, particularly affecting children and the elderly. Residents recalled that after repeated appeals, the Assam government had constructed a drinking water supply scheme for the village. However, they alleged that despite the scheme being completed years ago, not a single drop of potable water has reached their homes.
The prolonged crisis has left the people of Holongamora deeply distressed, with villagers now demanding urgent government intervention to restore the water supply and ensure access to safe and reliable drinking water before the situation worsens further.
