Drug Inspection Drive in Barpeta Detects Violations, Seals Pharmacies and Seizes Medicines

An intensive five-day drug inspection drive across Barpeta district detected several regulatory violations, resulting in the seizure of medicines and the sealing of pharmacies, godowns and other premises, officials said.

During the drive, medicines were seized from vendors at Mandia Weekly Market, while an unlicensed premises at Satrakanara was also identified and raided. Inspections across Gohiya, Barmara Bazar, Chenga, Nagaon, Howly and Barpeta Road found wholesale establishments allegedly engaging in retail sales.

A medicine storage premises at Barpeta Road was sealed after the required documents could not be produced. A separate godown storing Homeopathic medicines was also sealed.

The inspections were later intensified in Sorbhog, Lasanga and Kalgachia, where three pharmacies were sealed with the assistance of an Executive Magistrate. Notices were issued to several other establishments to produce the required documents.

Further action at Bheraldi, Radhakuchi, Bheragaon and Jyotigaon led to the sealing of a pharmacy at Bheraldi and a godown at Muslimpatty in Jyotigaon, while another pharmacy at Radhakuchi was locked.

Enforcement teams also seized 185 vials of Oxytocin injection suspected to be misbranded. On the final day, inspections were conducted at Palhazi Bazar and Pathsala, with establishments found violating regulations recommended for departmental action.
