Dibrugarh: The International Affairs Office of Dibrugarh University, in collaboration with the Inter-State Foreign Maitribandhan Sub-Committee of the Asom Sahitya Sabha and Panchajanya Books, organised a special book launch programme on Wednesday to release Riparian Silence, the Korean translation of poet Manoj Barpujari’s work by eminent South Korean writer and critic Seok Yong Chang.
The book was jointly unveiled by Dr. Surajit Borkotokey, Director, International Affairs Office, Dibrugarh University; Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, Convener of the Inter-State Foreign Maitribandhan Sub-Committee; noted writer and former Vice-Chancellor Dr. K.K. Deka; and retired professor Dr. Gopal Hazarika.

Speaking at the event, Manoj Barpujari shared the story of how Seok Yong Chang—an acclaimed writer, film critic, columnist, poet and chairman of the Committee of Korean Arts Critics—took interest in translating his poems. Chang, who has taught cultural criticism at Seokyung University and Dongguk University and authored the celebrated Movie Story Reading with Heart, attended the programme and expressed admiration for the creativity of Assamese writers.
A recipient of multiple prestigious honours including the Younghwa Critic Award, Le Monde Critic Award, PAF Critic Award, Best Artist for Film Criticism Award, Korea Culture and Art Award and Dance Critic Award, Chang thanked the organisers for bringing the translated work to readers in Assam.
He was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Jyoti Prasad Phukan and Prof. Aditya Dahal on behalf of D.H.S.K. College (Autonomous), marking a significant moment of literary exchange between Assam and South Korea.
