Entertainment, Jan 4: The creators of Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer, have confirmed that a spinoff set in the franchise’s universe is officially in development, even as the original Netflix series concluded after nearly a decade.
The confirmation came days after the release of the show’s long-awaited finale, which brought the Hawkins-based storyline to a close. The Duffer Brothers said the spinoff would explore unresolved elements from the original series while introducing a completely new mythology.
Matt Duffer said the upcoming project would provide context to lingering questions without revisiting familiar territory. He said the spinoff would be “very fresh and very new” while still addressing loose threads left behind in the main series.
Ross Duffer said work on the project would resume immediately, describing it as a creative reset with new characters, a new town and an entirely different world. He said development had been ongoing intermittently and would now move forward in earnest.
The announcement followed the staggered release of the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which premiered in three parts between November 26 and December 31. The concluding episode, running over two hours, marked the longest instalment of the series and also received a limited theatrical release.
Netflix has not yet announced details regarding the spinoff’s setting or release timeline, though the creators indicated it would function as a standalone expansion rather than a direct continuation of the original story.
