Durga Idol Made of 15 Kg Paper Pulp in Dhubri

Dhubri: Devotees in Dhubri are in for a unique visual treat this Durga Puja, as local artist Pradip Kumar Ghosh prepares to unveil a striking idol of Goddess Durga crafted entirely from paper pulp. Weighing nearly 15 kilograms, the idol is now receiving its final touches at Ghosh’s workshop.

For almost a decade, Ghosh has been captivating the public with idols made from unconventional materials. In 2024, his creation using nearly 8,000 plastic bottles drew widespread admiration, while his tree-bark idol the previous year also received high praise. His innovative works have found space not only in Dhubri but also at Puja pandals in Bongaigaon, Assam, and Cooch Behar, West Bengal.

A private tutor by profession, Ghosh has been experimenting with Durga idols since 1992, often surprising devotees with unusual choices of materials — from vegetables to plastic bottles and dried bark. Each year, his efforts combine artistry with awareness, sparking conversations about creativity and sustainability.

The 2025 paper-pulp idol will be showcased at the Sabuj Sangha Puja Pandal, located at Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua Playground in Ward No. 1, Dhubri town. With Puja festivities approaching, anticipation is already building among devotees eager to witness Ghosh’s latest masterpiece.
