ECI Mandates Assured Facilities and Voter Assistance at All Polling Stations for 2026 Elections

National, March 22: The Election Commission of India has directed all states and Union Territories to implement Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) and voter assistance measures at every polling station for the upcoming 2026 Assembly and bye-elections.

Following the announcement of the election schedule on March 15, Chief Electoral Officers have been instructed to ensure that all 2,18,807 polling stations are equipped with essential infrastructure to facilitate a smooth voting process.

Under the guidelines, polling stations will provide basic amenities including drinking water, shaded waiting areas, toilets with water, adequate lighting, ramps for persons with disabilities, standard voting compartments, and clear signage. Seating arrangements will also be made at intervals for voters in queues.

To improve voter awareness, four standardised Voter Facilitation Posters will be displayed at each polling station, containing key information such as polling station details, list of candidates, voting procedures, required identification documents, and important instructions.

In addition, Voter Assistance Booths will be set up at all polling locations, with designated officials to help voters identify their polling station and verify electoral roll details.

As part of a voter-friendly initiative, the Commission has also introduced a mobile phone deposit facility outside polling stations, allowing voters to safely deposit their switched-off devices before entering and collect them after casting their vote.

The Commission stated that these measures are mandatory and will be closely monitored to ensure compliance, with the aim of delivering a seamless, accessible and convenient voting experience for all electors.
