Ethnic Dance Festival Marks Grand Finale of Basanta Utsav 4.0 at Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College

Udalguri-Sonitpur, May 2: Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College concluded its Basanta Utsav 4.0 celebrations on May 2 with an Ethnic Dance Festival held under the framework of the National Education Policy, showcasing the cultural richness of Assam through student performances.

The festival featured a diverse range of traditional dances, including Bihu, Baisagu, Deusi, Barsha Baran and Jhumur, highlighting the state’s varied folk traditions and cultural heritage. Students actively participated in the performances, reflecting both enthusiasm and artistic expression.

The programme began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Jogendra Saikia, President of the College Governing Body. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Sukdev Adhikari said the initiative was aimed at familiarising students with Assam’s diverse cultural traditions while promoting awareness and appreciation among the younger generation.

Dr. Arindam Kumar Deka, Coordinator of the Language-Literature-Culture Study Forum, noted that the institution was among the first in Sonitpur district to introduce Basanta Utsav, adding that such programmes, encouraged under the National Education Policy, provide a platform for students to explore and showcase their talents.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Hari Prasad Baruah, followed by the national anthem, marking the successful culmination of the cultural celebration.
