Tinsukia, June 27: The Excise Enforcement Team of the Margherita Co-District launched a crackdown on the illegal sale and storage of liquor along National Highway 315 in Assam’s Tinsukia district on June 26, registering four cases and seizing substantial quantities of alcoholic beverages during the operation.
The enforcement drive was conducted at roadside dhabas and eateries located on both sides of the highway between Dehing and Ledo, falling under the jurisdiction of Margherita Police Station.
According to the Excise Department, four cases were booked under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act. During the operation, officials seized 2.7 bulk litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 9.75 bulk litres of beer and 9 bulk litres of country spirit, all intended for sale within Assam.
The team also destroyed 20 litres of illicitly distilled liquor at the spot after completing the required legal formalities.
Officials said notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were issued to the persons concerned in connection with the violations.
The Excise Department stated that the operation formed part of its ongoing campaign to curb the unlawful storage, sale and distribution of liquor across the district and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing similar enforcement drives.
