Shillong, May 25: The first edition of Exercise PRAGATI 2026, the multinational military exercise currently being held at Umroi in Meghalaya, has moved into an intensive operational stage with the participation of more than 400 military personnel from 12 friendly countries.
The exercise, which began on May 20, is aimed at strengthening regional peace, enhancing security cooperation and improving interoperability among participating armed forces through joint training activities and professional exchanges. Conducted in the spirit of friendship, equality and mutual respect, the exercise has brought together military contingents from different nations to train in demanding operational conditions.
One of the key features of the exercise has been the creation of integrated teams consisting of personnel from all participating countries. These mixed teams have been jointly carrying out tactical drills and field-based activities designed to improve coordination and deepen operational understanding among troops.
During the past three days, military personnel trained in the semi-mountainous and jungle terrain around Umroi, taking part in exercises such as rock craft, ambush and counter-ambush operations, slithering drills, jungle lane shooting and bus intervention tasks. Participants also competed in sniper firing and AK-203 rifle firing events intended to enhance combat skills, confidence and professional interaction.
Alongside operational activities, the exercise has also emphasised military camaraderie through sports and informal interactions. Participants joined basketball, volleyball and tug-of-war competitions aimed at strengthening teamwork, cooperation and trust among the armed forces.
Officials said Exercise PRAGATI 2026 seeks to reinforce collective preparedness and deepen military engagement among regional partners, reflecting a shared commitment to tackling common security challenges through cooperation, training and knowledge-sharing.
