Agartala, June 26: Several people were injured after a powerful explosion struck a residential apartment building in Tripura’s capital, Agartala, on Tuesday afternoon, causing extensive structural damage and prompting an investigation by multiple agencies into the cause of the incident.
The blast occurred at around noon at NS Apartment near Sankat Chowmuhani on Ramnagar Road No. 4. Following reports of a loud explosion, teams from the police, Fire Service and Bomb Squad rushed to the site and launched emergency response operations.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Deba Prasad Roy said the explosion originated on the first floor of the building. He stated that police and other emergency agencies immediately began rescue efforts while initiating an investigation to determine the source of the blast.
The force of the explosion shattered several windows and damaged parts of the apartment building, creating panic among residents.
A resident of the third floor said he was inside his room when he heard a deafening sound. After rushing outside, he found that the first floor had suffered severe damage. Several occupants were injured in the incident.
Among the injured was a woman who sustained serious injuries after glass fragments struck near her eye. She was shifted to GB Hospital for treatment. Another man, who was present on the first floor when the explosion occurred, also suffered injuries and complained of severe body pain. Authorities have directed that all those injured receive immediate medical care.
Officials said the exact cause of the explosion has not yet been established. While some residents suspect a gas leak, investigators have not ruled out any possibility. Police and forensic experts are conducting a detailed examination of the scene to determine what triggered the blast.
