Sivasagar: Sivasagar police have busted a fake currency racket, arresting three individuals from a hotel in the town. The arrests were made during a late-night raid at Raj Place Hotel, where incriminating materials, including special papers and equipment used to print counterfeit notes, were seized.
The accused have been identified as Balin Neog of Chelenghat in Jorhat, Raj Hussain of Na-Kachari, and Sadik Rahman of Kakajan. Police sources said the trio had been running a fraudulent scheme, duping unsuspecting victims with the promise of doubling their money.

Investigations revealed that the accused convinced people that Rs 5 lakh could be converted into Rs 10 lakh. They allegedly used chemicals and other materials to make counterfeit notes resemble genuine currency, thereby cheating several individuals.
Authorities are now probing the scale of the racket and whether more people are involved. Police have urged citizens to remain cautious against such fraudulent offers and assured strict action against those attempting to destabilize financial security through counterfeit operations.
