Fake Doctor Accused Dies After Medical Emergency in Kokrajhar Jail

Kokrajhar, June 30: A man accused of impersonating a doctor died on Tuesday, June 30, after suffering a medical emergency while lodged in judicial custody at Kokrajhar Jail, officials said.

The deceased, identified as Rabindra Chandra Nag, had been arrested by Kajalgaon Police on June 25 over allegations that he had posed as a medical practitioner.

According to officials, the case was registered on the basis of an FIR filed by the Assam Council of Medical Registration. Nag was apprehended from Dhaligaon and produced before a court on the day of his arrest. He was subsequently remanded to judicial custody and lodged at Kokrajhar Jail.

Officials said Nag experienced a cardiac-related medical emergency inside the jail during the early hours of Tuesday.

Jail authorities immediately shifted him to Kokrajhar Medical College in critical condition for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, he was declared dead at around 7:30 am.

Authorities said further legal and administrative procedures will be carried out in connection with the custodial death.
