Father and Son Killed After Roadside Tree Falls on Scooter Near Guwahati

Guwahati, June 23: A tragic accident on the outskirts of Guwahati claimed the lives of a 40-year-old man and his eight-year-old son after a roadside tree suddenly collapsed onto their scooter in the Chandubi Rajapara area on June 22.

The victims were identified as Kartik Rabha, aged 40, and his son Bhrigumoni Rabha, aged eight. Their deaths sent shockwaves through the locality and left residents mourning the loss.

According to reports, the father and son were travelling from Mataikhar Salser to Rajapara to visit a relative when the mishap occurred. As they were passing through the Muduki–Hatigarh Chowk area, a dead and weakened tree standing beside the road unexpectedly came crashing down onto their two-wheeler.

The force of the impact proved fatal, and both Kartik Rabha and his son died at the scene before any medical assistance could arrive.

Local residents who witnessed the incident alerted the authorities immediately. A team from Palashbari Police Station in Mirza rushed to the spot and began recovery operations. The bodies were retrieved from beneath the fallen tree, while efforts were undertaken to clear the debris and restore traffic movement in the area.

The incident has once again raised concerns over the condition of ageing roadside trees and highlighted the need for timely inspection and removal of hazardous trees to avert similar tragedies in the future.
