FIR Filed Against AJP Candidate Kunki Choudhary Over Alleged Polling Violations in Guwahati Central

Guwahati, April 10: A case has been registered at Panbazar Police Station over alleged breaches of election norms during polling in the Guwahati Central Assembly constituency, with Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Kunki Choudhary named in the FIR.

The complaint, lodged by Naba Kumar Lahkar, relates to alleged irregularities that took place on April 9, 2026. It also names political worker Sandeep Yadav and others in connection with the incident.

According to the FIR, Yadav was present in the constituency despite election rules requiring individuals not authorised for polling duties to leave the area 48 hours before voting begins. The complaint further alleged that Choudhary entered a polling station accompanied by a small group and interacted with voters in a manner intended to influence their choices.

Additional allegations include the presence of vehicles associated with the candidate within a restricted zone near the polling station, as well as the unauthorised entry of her personal security officer into the polling premises. The complainant also claimed that door-to-door outreach activities were carried out during the silence period, which is prohibited under election guidelines.

The FIR invokes provisions under election laws and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, citing undue influence and interference in the electoral process. Video and digital evidence have reportedly been submitted along with the complaint.

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter, and further details are awaited as the probe progresses.
