An FIR has been lodged at Moran Police Station following the alleged defacement of the Assamese portion of a public signboard in Kokrajhar, an incident that has drawn strong reactions from supporters of the Assamese language.
According to the complaint, unidentified persons allegedly smeared black paint over the Assamese text on a signboard located on G.D. Road in Kokrajhar on July 5. The complainant described the act as an insult to the Assamese language.
The FIR was filed by Devajit Baruah, who alleged that the incident formed part of a larger conspiracy against the government. He also submitted video footage, purportedly showing the accused defacing the signboard, to support the complaint.
Baruah demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible and called for strict legal action against them. He further warned that any delay in action could lead to widespread public protests.
The alleged defacement has sparked outrage among sections of Assamese language activists and local residents, who have condemned the incident and sought a thorough investigation.
Police have not yet issued an official statement on the case or confirmed whether any arrests have been made.
